Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus has been producing graduates equipped with the skills that match the needs of industry. Of the more than 400 students who graduate this year, 92.2% has found employment. Over the years, many Swinburne Sarawak graduates have found careers with some of the biggest names in industry. This could be attributed to the university’s programmes that are designed to tackle real world issues and provide hands on learning.
Most of its programmes involve applied learning through classes in the laboratory, case studies, teamwork, research projects and project based assignments. The university’s Professional Learning Model enables undergraduates to undertake a range of experiential learning activities.
Swinburne Sarawak’s programmes in commerce, business, ICT, design, engineering and science are identical to those of its home campus in Melbourne. From foundation studies, diplomas, bachelor and master programmes to PhDs, students choose pathways to suit their individual interests and career aspirations.

The curriculum is sourced from Swinburne’s home campus, and quality mechanisms ensure that the same high standards are maintained throughout the university. A Swinburne degree therefore has the same high standards whether one studies at the Kuching or Melbourne campus. Swinburne Sarawak graduates are awarded the same internationally recognized Australian degree, just as their peers at the Melbourne campuses.
Choose Kuching or Melbourne
While students may complete their studies at the Sarawak Campus, they may transfer to complete them at Swinburne’s other campuses in Melbourne. Undergraduates may also go on an exchange programme for a semester or two in Australia on Swinburne Sarawak tuition fees, giving them an opportunity to enrich their university experience.

In addition to obtaining a degree awarded by an institution that has been in existence for over a hundred years, studying at Swinburne Sarawak is only a fraction of the cost of studying in Australia. In Depth, Broad Study Options
Students have the opportunity to experience depth of learning in their chosen discipline and also the breadth of complementary study options. The majority of its three year undergraduate degrees require undertaking a professional major with either a co-major or two minors. Co-majors and minors may be different from the discipline of the major.
Swinburne currently has about 4,000 students, of which 20% come from more than 50 countries. The majority are from Sarawak while students also come from all corners of Malaysia. ABy 2013, student numbers are expected to reach 5,000. Academics comprise of highly experienced team from Australia, Germany, India, Iraq, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand and Singapore.
Well Equipped Campus
Students have access to highly advanced facilities. A 10,244 square feet lecture theater that seats 350 is equipped with the latest audio visual technology while a library accommodates over 750 and provides learning resources and services to support the university’s teaching, learning and research programmes.
Laboratories for engineering, research and science as well as tutorial rooms are equipped with more than RM10 million in cutting edge equipment. Computer laboratories boast the latest desktop PCs and multimedia applications. State-of-the-art production facilities allow students to create professional video productions such as short films, commercials and music videos. Two fully furnished on campus hostels provide 430 students with all the conveniences of home.
Scholarships and Study Loans
Several organizations also award scholarships through the university. Other scholarships include those from Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam, Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship Foundation and Tabung Amanah Bakun. Bursaries for diploma programmes are also available, and the university assists with applications for study loans such as PTPTN, Yayasan Sarawak Study Loam.
